A war and love story from a novel
 by Rolf A. F. Witzsche.

There comes a point
when the best established processes are not enough,
when nothing remains to save us,
 but our humanity.

In the natural world the king of the beasts is not a tyrant, but a protector of his family. That's the role that Sergei Arenski has taken on for himself within the group of the strategic planners of the Soviet world. He aims to be a protector of our human world from tyrants that aspire to be king in the arena of nuclear war. His home is a mansion from Russia's imperial times, located far from Moscow and the Soviet era games. He utilizes the place as an oasis of sanity to bring sanity to a competitive world where sanity is fast failing. He brings his strategic planners to the oasis, individually, in an effort to keep their humanity alive. Except in the end his oasis of peace and his passion for humanity prove to be insufficient. The one thing that proves crucial in the end when everything begins to be falling apart is not the oasis that he has built, or the people he uplifted, but his personal integrity as a human being.

The story, Sergei's Oasis, is a war story from the novel, Brighter than the Sun, by Rolf A. F. Witzsche.
